It is all over the news that the very popular Maruti Suzuki Swift is to get a facelift sometime soon but the new sensation are the spy shots of a Maruti Suzuki prototype under testing. the camouflaged prototype was clicked in Europe. It is rumoured that the prototype is a premium hatchback which will be placed over Swift and has been codenamed project YRA.
The Maruti Suzuki YRA spy shots are not helping much due to the heavy camouflage but the typical Suzuki alloy wheels give away the identity. The hatchback in the pictures is definitely longer than the swift and even passes the 4-meter mark. The prototype also sports daylight LED lights and has low ground clearance. All these sum up to deduce that the car is sure to have a spacious design and a premium, feature-rich package. As per a recent leak, Maruti YRA premium hatchback has been spied partially covered. The new spyshot reveals the front of the car which is nothing like the recent YRA renders based on the Ciaz sedan. It gets a waterfall design grille with touch of chrome on the grille as well as the logo. Also the DRLs are visible on the front bumper near the fog lamps housing on the inner side. The headlamps have some resemblance to the new Swift and Dzire headlamps which maybe because of Suzuki’s part sharing strategy.
The profile and size of the car as appearing from this spy pictures indicated a large and spacious car with close to 4 m length and high roof to add up more cabin volume.

As per latest reports by our fellow blog Motorbash, Maruti Suzuki India has started importing some parts and probably some prototypes of the YRA for testing in India. Along with that, the engine options for the YRA are being contemplated to be a K10C turbocharged petrol engine and a 1.3 litre DDIS engine which we see on Swift and other Maruti diesel cars. The diesel unit is sourced from Fiat and Suzuki is not using its own diesel engines in any of the cars which it sells in India when we are making this update.

It is being said that the car will have a turbocharged 1.0-litre K10 C petrol engine with Direct Injection Turbocharger Technology which gives out 90 BHP of power at 140 Nm of torque. the details about the new diesel engine is not yet confirmed but probably it will be an new indigenous turbo engine. The five door car looks like almost the size of a mini van like the Honda Jazz.
The premium hatchback if it is will occupy the slot above swift and will go on sale for around Rs. 6-9 lakhs. The spotting of the vehicle signals a new treat heading for the Indian car market. The car will take on the rivals like Honda Jazz (which will be launched in 2015). We also hope to see the car in India earliest, maybe at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo.
