With the help of Visuals Concepts, 2K Sports hopes to give the WWE 2K series a spectacular debut on the new generation of consoles, and they’ve released a new making-of trailer today that highlights how the new grappling system and additional motion capture will be cornerstones of the in-ring action of WWE 2K15.
In the trailer, executive producer Mark Little, senior designer Bryan Williams, and art director Lynell Jinks go into detail on how the revamped grappling system is intended to mimic the pacing and storytelling of a real-life WWE match. This mechanic will help differentiate the wrestlers from each other in a significant way. “Fundamentally, the characters may be different, but they all play the same,” Williams says in the trailer of past entries in the series. “And that’s one thing that’s always stuck in my craw.”
Of course, the coolest thing is simply seeing Swiss specimen Cesaro’s Giant Swing go through the mo-cap process—demonstrating that his former manager Paul Heyman dubbed him the “King of Swing” for a reason—so even casual wrestling fans should check it out for that reason alone.
