According to the  company the Micra and Sunny recall triggered by the airbag issue affects only models manufactured between 2008 to 2012 with the component in question being replaced free of cost.

“Nissan plans to begin notifying customers soon. Nissan dealers will replace the driver airbag inflator with a correctly manufactured part at no cost to the customers for parts or labour” a Nissan India spokesperson said. The issue was brought to notice by the airbag supplier Takata and globally affects 2,60,000 units of the March/Micra, Sunny/Almera/Versa, Note, Patrol and Cube.

Over 7 lakh vehicles have been recalled in India by manufacturers like Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra, Toyota, Ford, Honda and Genral Motors  since the introduction of the voluntary vehicle recall by SIAM in July 2012. Last month Maruti Suzuki recalled 69,555 units of the Swift, DZire and Ritz to replace a faulty wiring harness. The company undertook another major recall, the largest in India, in April 2014 when they recalled 1,03,311 units Ertiga, Swift and DZire manufactured between November 12, 2013 and February 4, 2014 to replace faulty fuel filler neck.
