Historically, natives of Netherlands are no strangers to houseboats as around 25% of the Netherlands is below sea level, and now the Dutch experts of houseboats, studio +31ARCHITECTS, has designed a luxurious incarnation of the quintessential houseboat, a very attractive Watervilla de Omval Houseboat, that floats peacefully on the Amstel river of Amsterdam.
This very modern floating house features an open floor plan where everyone can enjoy the outdoor space and expansive views of the water. The exterior is clad in aluminum while the interior curves are rendered in white plaster. And with distinctive curve of the façade, the white plastered walls and ceilings follow the curve of the building to create a seamless transition from the interior to the exterior, while floor-to-ceiling windows to afford the inhabitants a panoramic view of the Amstel, as well give a very bright and open environment in the house.

The circulation of the interior is simple and straightforward, yet very intimate and personal. It consists of a living area, open kitchen, bathroom, and a bedroom split between two levels. The split level makes it possible to create a terrace on the south side without exceeding the maximum building height of three meters.

Both levels are connected by a stairway, featuring a living space and kitchen at the water level, and cabins that are located in the lower decks, below the water line for underwater view, and can be reached via a split level that houses the bathroom. And, the roof of this split leaves forms a terrace at one end of the house boat.

Obviously, the design of this building has, unlike most floating houses. It has a very contemporary design, yet without losing the characteristic appearance of the typical houseboat. Come to think in mind, if the bustle of urban life becomes too much to bear, wouldnâ??t it be nice to retreat to your own private floating getaway. That must be splendid, doesnâ??t it?
