Creating new, unestablished properties/franchises/e-word is among Capcom’s priorities, according to the company’s latest financial results QA summary.
“Creating new intellectual property is one of our priorities,” reads one of the answers. “We allocate about 20% of our investments each year to intellectual property and are constantly working on developing new property.”
And if the forward-thinking, healthy attitude that is focusing on new as opposed to trotting out the old to bank on nostalgia isn’t enough for you, Capcom’s attitude toward the success of a new IP is equally as healthy and realistic:
“Producing an immediate hit from intellectual property is not our objective,” the summary continues. “We want to build up this property in stages while incorporating feedback and wishes of users.”
The most recent brand-new IP to come out of Capcom is the PS4 exclusive Deep Down, a Dark Souls–style action-RPG that will be free-to-play when it launches sometime next year.
