Gmail Chat

Gmail Chat

All Gmail accounts are automatically enabled with chat features. You can see who among your friends are online. In the chat box you can type in messages, links, smiley’s, etc. It also has the name of the sender and your name as well, and the time you sent the message or received the message.

My chat history – you can save chat history so you can search for chats, print them and reply over mail.

Voice and video chat – you can also set up voice and video chat. Click on the verify settings to check your camera, microphone and speakers to make sure that they are all working properly. Video chat is done via Google Hangouts and allows you to have up to 10 people connected at one time.

Call Phones – You can call cell phones if you have a Google voice account.

Auto-add suggested contacts – you will have two options here:

  • “Automatically allow people I communicate with often to chat with me and see when I’m online”

  • “Only allow people that I’ve explicitly approved to chat with me and see when I’m online.”

Sounds – you can have chat sounds on and off.

Emoticons – enable or disable emoticons on chat.

Accessing Google Hangouts from Gmail

It is now possible to connect to a Google Hangout directly from within your Gmail account. You do this via the Chat section of your account by simply entering the email, phone number or name of the person you want to connect with.

You have the option of changing your Chat over to Hangouts or keeping it as a chat messenger. If you decide to keep the Chat style you will have to access Hangouts via your Google+ account.

Web Clips

Web Clips are the relevant sponsored links, RSS, headlines etc. placed at the top of your inbox. If you want to have feeds above your inbox, click on the “Show my web clips above the inbox and click “Save Changes”. If you don’t want to show them, just uncheck the box and it will remove all the web clips.
