Inbox type:

Classic – is the default inbox style where messages are ordered consecutively. This is the inbox style that most people use where messages are ordered chronologically. Recent emails always appear at the top of your inbox.

Important First – it shows emails that are important at the top of the page and at the bottom is everything else.

Unread – this feature will show all the unread messages at the top with everything else at the bottom.

Starred First – emails that you starred will show at the top and everything else at the bottom.

Priority Inbox – this feature customizes your priority inbox by going to settings then to the Inbox tab. If you want to have control over your inbox, choose priority inbox as the Inbox type.

Importance markers – Gmail analyzes incoming messages and predicts which one is important. Gmail bases the importance on how you treated similar messages in the past. If you want to classify important messages, just hover your mouse over the importance marker to see the reason Gmail marked it as important.

If you want to show markers for your important messages, click “Show markers” and select “No Markers” if you don’t want any.

Filtered mail – you can choose to override filters (allows Gmail to put important archived messages back in your inbox) or not override filters (to bypass the Inbox when creating a Gmail filter).
