Opel Insignia 2016 Review

The Insignia has been rumored to receive an update ever since 2013 when the mild facelift of the car released back in 2007 has been offered on the market as a disappointment for some people. However, GM will now give the car a complete redesign which is meant to allow it to compete with the newest offerings out there such as the Mondeo or even the Passat. The new Opel Insignia 2016 is said to be lighter, more powerful and a lot more efficient than the current model which will certainly make it an interesting choice.

Opel Insignia 2016 Review

While GM has not released anything official about it, an Opel official said not too long ago in a press conference that the upcoming 2016 Opel Insignia is going to be one of the most beautiful cars released in the recent years. Even though this sounds a bit generic, a prototype of the car has been spied not too long after this statement with heavy camouflage on it and even though there are not that many details that can be seen on the new car, it seems that it will borrow heavily from the 2013 Monza concept car which has been quite successful when it was launched at the Frankfurt Auto Show.

Release Date And Price

The release date for the upcoming Opel Insignia 2016 is likely going to be in the late 2015 or early 2016 and the car will be ready for sale by the end of 2016. The price should be similar to that of the current model or slightly higher and just like before, it will continue to be sold under the Buick brand in China and North America. The platform the new model is going to use is the E2XX which will be using quite a bit of high strength steel and aluminum which should lower the car’s weight by at least 200 pounds.

Opel Insignia 2016 Engine

Engine wise, the upcoming Opel Insignia 2016 is expected to get a fair share of all new engines as well as a couple of carried over ones. The base model will likely be offered in certain parts of the World with a 3 cylinder 1 liter petrol engine which could make anything between 100 and 150 horsepower. Further up the range, the car will make use of GM’s new line of 4 cylinder engines with 1.5, 1.6 and 2 liter offerings which will range in power from 170 hp for the 1.5 liter engine and up to 290 horsepower for the top of the range 2 liter model. There are also going to be a couple of diesels which will likely include the newest 1.5 liter unit as well as a bigger 2 liter model. All of these engines will be offered with front wheel drive as standard while all wheel drive is likely going to be available as an option. A 6 speed manual will likely be offered as standard in Europe while a 6 or 9 speed automatic is going to be available as an option.

2016 Opel Insignia Design

The design of the car will be quite similar to that of the Monza concept. From the prototype spied a couple of months ago it seems that the front end will be pretty much unchanged with the same side air intakes and the same aggressive design as that of the concept car. In the back, the Opel Insignia 2016 will also borrow from the concept and despite the fact it will be a sedan, it will feature a sloped roof which will make it look a bit more like a coupe. Its cabin has not been disclosed to the public but due to the larger size of the car, its cabin will offer more room. On top of that, the materials used on the dashboard, seats and even controls will be better in order to give the car a more premium feel.
