The Evil Within’s first piece of story DLC, ‘The Assignment,’ launching early 2015

Bethesda has announced that part one of The Evil Within‘s season pass content, The Assignment, will be available in early 2015.

The Assignment is the first of two story-based DLCs centering around Detective Castellanos’ mysterious partner, Juli Kidman. Tango Gameworks’ John Johanas explained how playing as Kidman is different to Castellanos. “Well, from a character perspective, I would say she’s much livelier than Sebastian was in the main game,” he explained. “Her story is a bit more personal than his as well, so there’s a bit of banter and commentary as you play.”

When asked when the DLC takes place, Johanas said: “We took a “Rashomon” approach to things with Juli’s campaign in the sense that “each person sees things differently.” In real life this is true, but inside STEM you can imagine how warped things would get!”

Details on episode two of the DLC, The Consequence, as well as the final piece of content featuring The Keeper (Boxman) will be revealed next year.

“The Evil Within feels like a project shackled by the desire to relive past survival-horror glories instead of pioneering brave new ones. Sometimes, it seems, giving fans what they think they want isn’t really the proper course of action,” Eric wrote in our review of the game, which you can read in full here.
