TIPS AND TRICKS TO NAVIGATE GOOGLE MAPS

Well, okay, you can sure use Google Maps to navigate through your way. But do you know there are so many things about Google Maps that can make your job a lot easier? So, here are some tips and tricks to help you navigate Google Maps in a much simpler and user-friendly way:

Tap and Zoom

[caption id="attachment_542" align="aligncenter" width="168"] Google Maps

Suppose you are driving, you suddenly forgot your way, you aren’t carrying a map (Well, that’s not really abnormal. Nobody does, nowadays!) and your car has no cell phone holder. Let’s make it tougher, you can’t really pull over to the side because you’re stuck in the middle of a busy traffic. What do you do? Obviously take out your phone, open Google Maps and fidget with it using your one hand. Now, you did find the right path but you need to zoom in to check out the landmarks and obviously, you can’t use the pinch-and-zoom feature with just one hand. That’s when this trick comes around like Superman to save you! All you need to do is double-tap the screen and while doing so, don’t let go off after the second tap. Slide your finger upwards to zoom out, or downwards to zoom in.

Independent of Internet

How many times have you ended up cursing your pathetic network when you were lost and desperately needed directions but maps simply won’t work? Well, save counting them off on your fingers because here is the one-stop solution that Google Maps offers you. You can save maps and access them even when you don’t have an internet connection.

Google Maps[/caption]

Here’s how you do it: When you are connected to the internet and are viewing a certain section of the map you’d want to save, just go to the search box and type “OK Maps.” As soon as you do that, you’ll get a tiny message in a bubble at the bottom saying “The on-screen map has been cached.” So, the next time you open Google Maps, you will still be able to view that particular section and if your GPS is enabled, you’ll also spot yourself on the map. Only, you won’t be able to get directions or search for locations.

This is highly beneficial when you are stuck somewhere without a data connection or if you are traveling to places and can’t manage the huge roaming charges that come with data connections.

Flights, Events and much More!

For all of you who think Google Maps are only about driving directions, spoiler alert! You cannot just figure out how to drive from one place to another, but also how you can fly right there. It is more or less similar to driving instructions. All you’ve got to do is choose your starting point and your destination and click on the option “See results on Google Flights”. That’s it. Easy-peasy.

Also, if you check out any venue on the desktop version of Google Maps, you’ll also find an option just below other information that reads “Upcoming Events”. Click on that and you’ll be led to a list of all events that are to be held in that particular venue in the near future. Dear Google, We love you for giving us . Yours truly, The Federation Of Lazy People.

We’re all living sedentary lives, and frankly, none of us really has the time to carry newspapers and maps with us everywhere we go. So, Google Maps on your phone is not just an asset, it is a necessity.

Japanese Garden Landscaping

The gardens of Westerners value the aesthetics and the role of trees, flowers and shrubs in an ideal of artistic transformation of nature, and the greatest examples of this quest for control of the ecosystem service of beauty are the French and their topiary gardens, a diametrically opposite view of the ancient Japanese garden, who preaches the true representation of natural biomes in a garden. Appreciation of natural features that are not favored Western landscape in the planning such as stone, branches and moss, more calculated the asymmetric positioning of elements that make up the Japanese garden has a purpose, it is more important than mere aesthetics.

The design of the Japanese garden is a combination of traditional natural landscape of the island of Honshu, the largest island of the archipelago that forms Japan with Shinto precepts so dear to the Japanese spirituality. The garden was the representation of Kami shrine – which can be translated as “spirit” or “deity” – and showed symbolically all the elements of mythology: the mountains, considered sacred, rivers and lakes, which are the physical representation of life, and evergreen trees, symbolizing eternity.

Since the initial purity of the first century of the modern era, Japanese gardens have undergone changes in its rites and its aesthetics under the influence of Buddhism, Taoism and the various historical periods of Japan, however, the key elements of the garden remained basically the same, with the immense symbolism embedded in them and respected by religions, clans and the inexorable passage of time.

Main elements of the Japanese garden

Water – one of the most important elements, water is the representation of purity and peace in traditional gardens and there is concern with its geographical route, beyond its presence in lakes that evoke serenity. The watercourse should follow from east to west if the owner of the garden wants to take the bad energy away and from north to south if the goal and obtain good energy of luck and fortune. Since ponds generally have the representation of a small island – or even an “island” of contemplation – where there are the sacred mountains.

Rocks – the island of the lake above can be represented by a rock. The rocks are more important than water in the composition of the Japanese garden because the symbolism becomes palpable, as it may represent the mountains, landforms sacred (both are rare practitioners of mountaineering in Japan) where the stem water sources; relatives and ancestors, showing respect and devotion; representation of the cosmos and many other peculiarities. The rocks and its byproducts – Sand, pebbles, and gravels- are arranged asymmetrically and representations salient are placed in odd numbers, in particular the three, which embody the trinity of the divinity, the earth and the sky.

The types of Japanese garden

The passage of the ages and mythological influence of Shinto, Taoism and Buddhism made the Japanese garden multiply their meanings and goals. From among the Japanese gardens most famous and desired are:

The rock garden, dry landscape garden, and zen garden -are what is considered by common sense the Japanese garden for excellence, although it is a derivation of “religious” that kind of garden. It is basically composed of volcanic rocks, stones and gravels, with the inclusion of grasses according to the style of who decorates. The gravel covering the floor represents the ocean and the rocks, mountain elevations; this landscape joint symbolizes in short, the way of life to its end.

The garden of the Tea Ceremony – Japanese garden that surrounds the tea room (the Tea Ceremony is a traditional ritual of fellowship in Japan – worth giving a Google search about) and is formed by a path usually made with gravel and sinuous form, flanked by stone-guide, flashlights and a vegetation composed by shrubs and bamboos as evergreen tree or boxwood.

The Japanese Garden of Contemplation – compact versions of the huge and impressive gardens drive typical of the Heian period (794-1185) with its lakes and bridges, the garden of contemplation has a structure that includes a small pond where some koi can be placed and shrubs preferably with few greens and floral elements. Bamboos, symbols of toughness and strength, and shrubs are asymmetrically striking presence in the garden, and the rocks and gravel on the trails.

You can see default system labels such as Inbox, Starred, Important, Chats, Sent Mail, Drafts, All Mail, Spam and Trash. In the next column is the “Show in label list” where you can show or hide labels.

How to Use Google Images

Hello and welcome to our tutorial about how to use Google Images. There will be two parts to the tutorial. The first will tell you how to do the normal search, when you search for an image by typing in the related words in the search bar. The second will teach you Google’s latest feature, which is the reverse image search. Using this, you can upload an image to Google Images and then search for related images on the web.

Here is a article with more info of Google Image Google Image

Google Images Google Images

Google™ Image service, Google™ and the Google logo™ are registered trademarks of Google Inc., used with permission.

First, let’s take the normal search by word. Here’s what you have to do to search images by word.

  • Go to Google Homepage and click the Images option at the top right hand corner.

  • On Google Images, type in words the subject of the images. For example, if you want to see images of a beach in Maldives, type Top 10 Beaches in Maldives, or something.

  • In order to search for moving pictures or gifs, type the subject and then write gif beside it.

  • You can filter you search by using the Search Tools option. Search Tools allows you to filter your search based on color, size, type, time of uploading and usage rights.

  • You also have the safe and private search options to modify your search. These allow you to keep to those sites which have safe user ratings, and also allow you to select whether you want to see public/private results.

  • For Advanced Search, go to the search settings option. This will allow you to fine pick your search until you hit the right find. Search by history, webpage, aspect ratio, file type; basically everything that you can possibly want.

  • Once you’ve got the image that you want, click on it to open in enlarged view. You can click on the link provided beside the image to go to the webpage. Google Images also provides you with a lot of related images you can choose from.

How does the reverse image search work?

You can now use the reverse search option on Google Images to find related images of the one you’ve uploaded. This will only work if the same or similar images are present in other places around the web, so don’t try this search with the pictures of your family, or whatever.

  • Go to Google Images and click the tiny camera shaped icon right beside the search bar.

  • You will get a list of options. You can either drag or drop the image you want, or copy and paste the image URL or browse and upload from your computer.

  • On uploading the image, Google takes you to a webpage with all the related images and their details. Your image is also searched by the file name, so change the name of your file to something related to the image. For example, if you have uploaded a picture of yellow poppies to search for related images of yellow poppies, make sure the file is called yellow poppies and not 1028773_images. You get the idea.

How to Use Google Translate

Hello and welcome to our tutorial about how to use Google Translate. Google Translate is a free online tool which lets you translate text from one language to another. It currently supports 80 languages. It can translate sentences, paragraphs and even entire web pages. It is an extremely useful device if you want to access information that is in a language you cannot understand.

Here is a article with more info of Google Translate Google Translate

How does Google Translate work?

Basically, when you type in a word or sentence, Google Translate automatically scans through millions of documents to make an intelligent decision about which translation is most suitable for you. This process is known as “statistical machine translation.” Since the translation is machine generated, it might not be perfect. But you can help improve the translation by clicking the “improve this translation” option. This allows you to select among multiple translations which one is the best for you.

Steps to use Google Translate:

  • Go to the Google Homepage.

  • Type Google Translate in the search bar. Alternatively, you can also type google.com in your browser’s menu bar.

  • Open the Google Translate link.

  • Type in the text in the left hand box. Click the drop down menu above the box to select the language you want to translate from.

  • In case you aren’t sure of the language you want to translate from, just type in the text and Google will detect the language for you.

  • The right hand box is the target language box where the translated text appears. Select the language you want to translate the text to from the options above the right hand box. The automatic language of translation is English.

In case you’re using a non Roman script,

  • Select the language you want to translate from.

  • You will see a tiny option underneath which will give you a virtual keyboard with the script.

  • In case you want to translate to a non Roman script, just select the language you want to translate to and watch the translated script in the right hand box. The translated text is also available in Roman script underneath, with the phonetic emphases.

  • You can also hear the text with appropriate pronunciations, by clicking the audio ( ) button.

Options on Google Translate

Google Translate lets you do many things with the translated text. When you type in one particular word or a small phrase, a long list of alternate translations will be available. Say you are translating from English to German; Google Translate will give you a dictionary of German words which can be used for the English word. Each German word in the dictionary will also have a list of English words which can be used for the German word. This type of reverse translation is very useful.

Also, in order to know how to use a language in context, click the example usage option ( Google Translate) next to the translated text and see a webpage with the words appear.

Google Translate works on Android as well as on iOS, so you can use it on your iPhone and other smartphones.

Google Docs

Google Docs

Google docs now upgraded to Google drive is one of the best online storage spaces available today. It offers more storage space than any other in the market and is versatile in its usability. You can create, share, edit and upload files and access them while on the go and all that you need is to be registered on Google. These files are stored on cloud or Google servers so that your files are never lost. Here is Google Docs URL: https://docs.google.com/

Google Docs Google Docs

Google™ Docs service, Google™ and the Google logo™ are registered trademarks of Google Inc., used with permission.

In fact, Google docs is more than just a storage tool as it also syncs in other Google applications like YouTube, Google calendar, Google maps and others where you can view, edit and manage all under one window.

Let us look at the other features of Google docs.

Storage – One of the best storage space in the market, it offers 15GB of free space. This space does not include space from documents that you create on Google docs which means you can store a ton of files from external sources. Additional space can be purchased at a nominal monthly fee.

Documents management – It is so easy to create documents, spreadsheets, presentations and manage them as well. You may also upload folders, and other files by the click of a button. The files that you edit or create online are auto saved on a timely basis and the edits can be retrieved from revision history option within the files in case of an unfortunate shut down of the working doc. Also these files can be deleted or downloaded. Deleted items are sent to trash which is then permanently deleted on thirty days.

Folders – You can create folders within the drive and drag and drop existing files into the folders to be more organized.

Sharing and Publishing – Another interesting feature offered by Google docs is that of sharing which is controllable on the level of individual file or to folders. You can share your files to a select few or choose to publish your work on the web. There is an easy way to see your own files from the files that are shared with you; a “shared with me” button on the left will help you manage that. Shared documents can be given just view rights, comment rights and rights to view and edit. What’s interesting is that all the members that the document is shared with can edit it at the same time and the activity can be seen by the others. Documents can also be shared with people who are not on Google docs and this will be sent as an attachment via email.

Activity log – There is a small icon on the top left that allows you to see details such as created date, privacy and ownership and also check any modifications that have happened on it since.

If you have the Google drive plug-in, you can also save a certain web page or a document that you are viewing right now, just right click and either save the page as a screen shot picture or as a link. It is that easy.

Google docs have taken cloud computing to the next level by offering much more beyond space.

Technicalities

Google News holds news relating to the past 30 days. It attends 4500 worldwide sources and produce content of around 25000 publishers. It is accessible for nearly 60 regions and in 28 languages approximately.

Publishers enjoy twin benefit from Google news as their news content is not only included in Google News but also surfaces up in the organic search results for Google web search.

Gazettes are recommended to create separate sitemaps for Google News which will help their content to be discovered faster with display of more accurate information of the publisher.

Discovery Crawl helps crawl up the site of publisher if they update it consistently. Google News identifies news snippets and groups them into clusters and then ranks them on the basis of certain criteria. For e.g. newness, geographic relevance, authenticity etc.

To drive more traffic news agencies can insert large JPEG, PNG, GIF images that meet Google News specifications. Place them adjacent to title to make it relevant to news piece. Appending a You Tube video associated to the subject matter can be a more effective idea.

Ensure a proper and unique URL for your website which is permanent. Your article’s title should be eye catching. Make sure your article fluidity doesn’t break because of comments, links and advertisements. Put the date between title and the article body to make it visible.

Controversy

Google’s move of not publishing censored content of People’s Republic of China was criticized. It was penalized for $ 17.5 million for violating copyright norms of Agence France-Presse (AFP) as Google News

How it all got started?

San Jose Water Company proposed Big Creek Lumber a logging plan in Santa Cruz Mountains. Residents were mailed a legal notice regarding logging and a vague black and white map. Google Earth Outreach Engineering Manager Rebecca Moore was a passionate environmentalist. She was a part of a community group NAIL (Neighbor Against Irresponsible Logging). She created an alternative map on Google Earth clearly highlighting areas to be affected by logging and California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection declined the approval for logging. This was the beginning of a revolution called Google Earth.

Google Earth- a blessing!

  1. Agree with the terms and conditions (Google Mail has to have a few gives and takes, doesn’t it) and press on the blue button to create your account. Congratulations, your account has been created. Now, we move on to domain verification.

Step 2: Verify Your Domain

  1. As soon as you are done with the registration, Google Mail directs you to a page wherein you have to choose between two methods of Domain Verification – Express or Custom. Basically, domain verification is the process of verifying your ownership of the domain. Express is recommended because it is faster and easier.

  1. There are two types of methods for domain verification:

a)     Recommended- Upload the HTML file by using FTP software

b)    Alternate- Further comprises of three methods:

i.            HTML tag

ii.            Google Analytics

iii.            Domain Name Provider

Unless you have an excellent command over FTP, it would be recommended that you go for the simplest method that is inserting an HTML tag. You can find this option in the ‘Alternate methods’ tab.

  1. You will obtain an HTML code that you are supposed to copy and paste in your site’s home page. As soon as you’ve done that, return to the Verification page and hit “Verify”.

Google Calendar

MANAGE PUBLIC EVENTS USING GOOGLE CALENDAR

If organizer diaries have been going down for losses, we know exactly whom to blame – Google Calendar. Not only does it simplify the processing and managing of your personal events, but also it helps you in managing the schedule of the ones with whom you want to make plans. Well, that doesn’t really qualify for being called “social work”, but yeah, you can help manage people’s schedules, you can tally them with yours so as to figure out when all of y’all can be free and also, you can have team calendars to plan out team events. This article tells you how you can find out a perfect slot for your party or your meeting simply by using Google Calendar.

Layering Multiple Calendars

What is it?

Suppose you are planning to arrange a small get-together with a few of your friends, but aren’t sure when all of them will be free to come around. Imagine sitting out with all their schedules, trying to find the perfect slot for the party. Tedious, isn’t it? Google Calendar makes it super-simple for you. All you’ve got to do is – layer their calendars on top of yours and it’ll show you just the right slots you can choose for your get-together.

Google Calendar Google Calendar

You can choose from calendars in My Calendars (these are the ones that you have permission to view, manage and modify) or Other Calendars (these are the ones that can only be viewed by you). The slots outlined in red are the ones that have not been assigned any event or task in any of the layered calendars, and hence you can select any of them for your get-together.

How do you add your friends’ calendars?

In the Add a coworker’s calendar field, start entering the e-mail addresses of the people whose calendars you wish to view, one at a time. If they’ve already opted for their calendars to be shared, you’ll see their names appearing below. Else, a dialog box will appear wherein you’ll have to send them an invite requesting them to share their calendar with you. Once they accept your invite, you will receive an e-mail notification telling you so.

How to do THE THING?

This is the major part and also, the simplest of them all. All you need to do is, click on the name of the person or the calendar listed in either of the sections and lo and behold, the calendars will get layered on top of yours! If there is a colored box next to a calendar or if the person’s name is displayed, it means that this specific calendar can be layered on top of yours. Google Calendar, boy, you’re making us really lazy!

Google Calendar Google Calendar

For hiding or removing any calendar, simply click on the name of the individual or the calendar with a colored box next to it.

Also, if you are too layered up and wish to see only your calendar, you won’t have to get rid of all of them by finding and clicking on the names. All you’ve got to do is find the arrow located next to your own name or calendar, click on it and select Display only this calendar. Your job is done. This works not just for your calendar, but for any calendar with the colored box next to it.

Now, the golden question – Why?

  • Google Calendar lets you organize all your calendars in one single place, so you won’t have to be all messy and carry around a different diary for work and a different one for family picnics.

  • Using Google Calendar, you can not only manage your own schedule, you can let others manage it for you or, for a change, you can be the less messed-up one and help them manage their! Oh, Google Calendar, you’re such an angel.

  • You can load public calendars with your own calendar using Google Calendar. For example, you can layer your company’s holiday schedule with your calendar.

  • You can sync your Google Calendar with your phone and that way, you can manage all your events, your anniversaries and your meetings right on the go! Easy-peasy, isn’t it?

So, get rid of organizer diaries and simply download the Google Calendar on your phone or desktop and watch your life getting simpler, happier and obviously, lazier!
