Bungie has ‘absolutely no plans’ to add raid matchmaking to Destiny

Bungie has “absolutely no plans” to introduce raid matchmaking to Destiny in the future, according to lead designer Luke Smith.

Since the game’s launch, players have been asking Bungie for matchmaking support for Weekly Heroics, Nightfall Strikes, and the Vault of Glass raid, but it appears that at least one of these has no chance of happening any time soon. Lead designer Luke Smith recently explained to Game Informer Bungie’s reasoning for not allowing matchmaking.

“We’re certainly noticing that there is voracity in the fanbase for content that makes them think-content that challenges them in some different ways,” he said. ”I think rather than say ‘Yeah, we’re going to make matchmaking for raids,’ the way I’m thinking about this problem is how we’re going to create that kind of content and create those kinds of emotions in matchmade activities. I think that’s the challenge. It’s not how do we change the raid-design philosophy to allow for matchmaking.”

According to Smith, the addition of a looking for group feature where players could advertise the content they wished to complete and look for players to help them would be more likely than straight-up matchmaking.

“I think looking at the LFG [looking for game] – style mechanics is something we absolutely want to do,” he explained. “We would love to get to a place someday where you can advertise your intent to people. Where you can say ‘I want to do this. Are you looking to do this with me?’ But we have absolutely no plans to do raid matchmaking at this time.”

Destiny‘s first expansion, The Dark Below, will be available from December 9 on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. The expansion adds new weapons and armor, a new quest-giver, a new Strike (two if you’re on PlayStation), three new PvP maps, new story missions, an increase in the maximum Light level to 32, and more.
