When a AAA game releases and goes on to become one of the biggest titles of the year, you’d expect the developer and publisher to come out and show off for a bit; nothing flashy, but something to really prove it. Yet, when Activision revealed that Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare was the biggest entertainment launch of 2014 last week, there was a distinct lack of sales numbers or a long list of player accomplishments aside from ‘x amount of online matches played’ and ‘y number of times people leveled online.’
Specific sales numbers for Advanced Warfare continue to be nonexistent, unfortunately, but following in the wake of Grand Theft Auto Online’s own infographic that came ahead of the PS4 and Xbox One versions, a similar such image has debuted for the yearly military shooter, offering more large numbers than the two aforementioned examples.
What’s most interesting about today’s graphic is that it doesn’t just relate to Advanced Warfare, but the Call of Duty series as a whole; well, parts of it, at least. Anything after 2010. Also, the aren’t any numbers related to kills or killstreaks, like some may expect, and instead the facts are a little… toned down. It’s less, “Look at this!” and more “Here’s some stuff you might find interesting, yeah?”
Here are a few, but the full image is below:
- Since 2010 (when Call of Duty: Black Ops released) the Call of Duty series has enjoyed over 125 million players
- Within the first two weeks of Advanced Warfare’s release, players boost jumped 16.1 billion times
- COD franchise players have earned over 1 quadrillion (yes, quadrillion) XP – enough to hit level 15 Prestige over 52.8 million times
Activision already said that the Call of Duty series has brought in over $10 billion in revenue. And while that dollar amount is crazy to imagine, that feeling is only multiplied when trying to comprehend a quadrillion. Since the series has been around since 2003, it would be helpful to see the XP gained split across the different games. If only to see which game’s muliplayer modes were more popular or played more. With this infographic coming not too long after the ‘biggest 2014 launch’ announcement, what are the chances we’ll get another stats filled image like this?
Are you still playing AW? And if so, have you even noticed how many times you boost jump while playing?
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is out now for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
