Metal Gear Solid series creator Hideo Kojima is set to officially reveal the new Metal Gear Online next week at The Game Awards, host Geoff Keighley announced on Twitter.
“Next Friday night I’m honored @HIDEO_KOJIMA_EN will join us at @thegameawards to world premiere Metal Gear Online,” Keighley wrote.
Metal Gear Online first debuted as part of Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence on PlayStation 2. This was followed by a second release alongside PlayStation 3 exclusive Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. Up to 16 players competed in several game modes, including Deathmatch, Team Sneaking, Capture Mission, Rescue Mission, and more. The servers were officially shut down in June 2012.
Hideo Kojima has previously confirmed that a new version of Metal Gear Online will be bundled with Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. The online mode is in development at Kojima Productions’ LA studio in collaboration with the main dev team in Japan.
The Game Awards will be held in Las Vagas on Friday, December 5.
