‘Shadow of Mordor’ & ‘Forza Horizon 2′ Get New DLC & Trailers

Fans of Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and Forza Horizon 2 can now take a gander at new trailers for each game’s most recent DLC expansions, both of which released this week.

First up is Shadow of Mordor’s Lord of the Hunt DLC. You can find the trailer up top. The story for the DLC involves Sauron dispatching Beastmaster Warchiefs to take out various monsters throughout Mordor. Talion (and players) will be able to turn the tables on these Warchiefs with the help of Torvin the Dwarven Hunter and his powers of Domination.

Here’s the additional 411, direct from Warner Bros. and Monolith Productions:

New Story Lore – Discover more tales from Torvin, the Dwarven Hunter, as you work together to tame the beasts of Mordor and fight Sauron’s minions.

New Nemeses – Face off against the Beastmaster Warchiefs, powerful new Uruks who have the ability to ride monsters and engage in perilous mounted combat.

New Monsters – Ride into battle on the Wretched Graug to vomit toxin at your foes, stalk your enemies on the predatory Caragath and attack from the shadows or raise an all-consuming Ghul Horde.

New Missions Challenges – New Beast Hunting challenges and collectibles open up new trophies and achievements.

New Epic Runes – Make your Mount unstoppable with five new epic Runes that make you the ultimate hunter.

Test of the Wild – Test your skills against the Beastmasters and mount your trophies on the leaderboard.

New Character Skin – Lord of the Hunt skin transforms Talion into the ultimate Beastmaster.

Middle earth Shadow of Mordor Hunt DLC Details

The trailer showcases the same satisfying and brutal gameplay players have enjoyed since Shadow of Mordor released in October to become one of the best games of the year. The ability to dominate the minds of enemies in the game has always been one of the more entertaining tricks that Talion can pull off, but seeing him possess some of the massive monstrosities in the trailer looks especially impressive. Plenty of other games have let players go “monster hunting”, but the ability to flip the script and take out the hunters instead feels like a refreshing change of pace. Taking control of that creature at the 30 second mark of the trailer conjures memories of mauling enemies to death as the wolf in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

Lord of the Hunt is available for download now for $9.99 or its free if you already have the $24.99 season pass. If you haven’t yet purchased the main title, you might want to get on that.Meanwhile, Xbox fans can also get even more DLC action this week with Microsoft‘s release of Storm Island for Forza Horizon 2.

Storm Island is an entirely new area for Forza and features some new technology that will create new weather conditions like tropical storms and heavy fog for players to drive through, much like DriveClub – Sony’s PS4 exclusive racer – finally patched in weather effects.

The Storm Island expansion adds 90 events to the game, including five brand new ones: Rampage, Brawl, Extreme Cross Country, Cross Country Circuit and Gauntlet. Online play is also getting beefed up with four new multiplayer arenas, 20 new online race routes, six online gauntlet events, three new Showdown events and five online championship events.

All of that off-road terrain in the trailer will of course require some new vehicles that can navigate them. Storm Island introduces five new vehicles to the game, as well various upgrades to existing vehicles that will offer better off-road suspension as well as tire and transmission upgrades.

Out of all of the new content, the new Gauntlet mode looks like it could be the most interesting. Gauntlet mode, both online and off, will feature point to point races at night and will require players to race while battling the worst of the elements that Storm Island has to offer, and with minimal signage to help out along the way. Sounds a little bit like that famous run by Dennis Nedry in Jurassic Park that ended with his vehicle out of commission and a cute dinosaur mauling him to death. But anyway…

Forza Horizon 2: Storm Island costs $20 and is available exclusively for Xbox One. Sorry, Xbox 360 users. But you should have seen this coming. Forza Horizon 2 VIP members can get the expansion for $10. Forza Horizon 2 is one of the better racing titles available on Xbox.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The  Forza Horizon 2 is available now on Xbox One and Xbox 360.
