‘Halo: The Master Chief Collection’ Multiplayer Update Comes This Week

Halo: The Master Chief Collection has been out for almost a week now, but many of its players are still experiencing issues. 343 Industries and Microsoft continue to tackle the wide range of problems that have been pointed out since the game’s launch, revealing that some of the fixes were made server side to improve server performance. It’s unknown just how many people are still running into problems a week later, but the fact remains that fixes still need to be made, and this launch may only be remembered as one filled with large updates and even longer matchmaking times.

In a forum post made on the Halo Waypoint forums, 343 Executive Producer Dan Ayoub provided a brief update regarding the current status of The Master Chief Collection. As stated before, fixes were implemented on the server side, which resulted in a 20% increase in server connectivity, but, as many players have probably noticed, overall performance within the collection itself is not where it needs to be.

Moving forward, the collection of games is due to receive yet another update, though this one will need to be downloaded by players at home. Ayoub explains that this upcoming update will focus on matchmaking performance, bugs, and several “title-specific issues.” What, exactly, those issues are wasn’t listed, but its probably safe to say that they’re all things the Halo community has been very vocal about already.

“We know the current Matchmaking experience is frustrating, and we continue to have various teams working 24/7 to isolate and resolve the issues to provide the best experience as soon as possible. We are going to continue to optimize the matchmaking experience after next week’s content update, and make further adjustments as needed. We thank you for your continued patience.”

The client side update is currently going through final testing and certification, with 343 scheduling its release for this Wednesday, November 19th. The size of the update wasn’t revealed, though it’s unlikely to be as large as the day one patch. Hopefully this will be the last (or one of the last) updates the collection needs and Halo fans can get back to enjoying the series of games they’ve been looking forward to revisiting for months.

Have the many issues and required updates affected your opinion of 343 as a studio? Are you now more worried about the Halo 5 beta (and the full game) than you were before?
