Destiny’s Heroic/Nightfall strikes only tied to The Dark Below for the week, not permanently

Destiny’s weekly Heroic and Nightfall strikes will only be tied to The Dark Below for the next week, Bungie clarified to Polygon.

Following The Dark Below’s launch today across PlayStation and Xbox consoles, players across Internet water coolers expressed concern that the previously available content now required $20 expansion to experience. But according to Bungie’s community head Eric Osborne, this is only temporary, not a permanent requirement for the Strike rotations.

“All existing strikes and maps are still accessible,” Osborne told Polygon. “Specific activities like nightfall will periodically feature expansion 1 content on the week the newest content is live.

“New public events, updated weapons and gear, new bounties, and of course the steady stream of updates are all available without additional cost to all players.”

Heroic and Nightfall strikes are weekly challenges for Guardians levels 20 and 24, respectively, aimed  to help high-level players find rarer loot drops such as Legendary or Exotic equipment, Strange Coins, or Ascendant material.
