Destiny’s Iron Banner event returns December 16, upcoming Crucible changes detailed

Bungie has announced that Destiny‘s Iron Banner event will return on December 16 and has also outlined a number of changes that will be made to the Crucible.

When Lord Saladin returns to the Tower later this month he will bring with him level 31 gear for players to earn. As a reminder, Iron Banner reputation will be reset for this event, so you will need to earn your ranks again to buy items.

In terms of PvP, Bungie has introduced a new Slaughter Rule, which is live right now, to help balance teams. In the event of a “massacre” all players are returned to orbit at the end of the game to re-enter matchmaking, a massacre occurs in the following instances:

  • Team-based playlists
    • If one team is grossly under-performing, the session is dissolved in favor of matchmaking

  • Rumble playlist
    • If three or more players are grossly under-performing, the session is dissolved in favor of matchmaking

Also, before the end of the year, the usually limited time playlists of Salvage and Combined Arms will be made available to all players, and the Bastion and First Light maps will be moved out of Control and Clash and placed in Combined Arms. Finally, Premium Playlists will be introduced:

  • New Playlists will let you play new content right away

  • Playlists will require The Dark Below to enter

  • Each week, we’ll have two additional Premium Playlists
    • Week One will be Clash and Rumble on new maps

    • Rotators will change each week

    • New experimental modes to be included!
