‘Game of Thrones’ Launch Trailer Reveals More HBO Series Cast Members

Telltale Games’ choice-and-consequence style of adventure games and HBO’s drama of political intrigue, betrayal and dragons in Game of Thrones seem like a match made in heaven, so it’s no wonder that Telltale’s episodic Game of Thrones game series has been so highly anticipated. Based on the show – rather than George R.R. Martin’s books – Game of Thrones begins towards the end of the show’s third season in terms of plot progression, and focuses on a Northern family called the Forresters.

In the studio’s usual fashion, Telltale revealed that Game of Thrones was about to be released just a few days in advance, and the first trailer for the new series has now been unveiled. Featuring a number of cast members from the show – including Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister, Lena Headey as Cersei Lannister and Iwan Rheon as Ramsay Snow – the trailer outlines the conflict between House Forrester and House Whitehill, bannermen of the Boltons who are jealous of the Forresters’ control of the ironwood forests.

Game of Thrones will have six episodes instead of Telltale’s usual five, and instead of having a single protagonist, will cast the player in the role of five different members of House Forrester. Decisions made as one character will impact upon the experiences of other characters (this trailer shows hints of a character potentially getting his hand cut off, for example), and locations will vary from King’s Landing to The Wall.

The rich voice cast and Telltale’s accessible gameplay style will almost certainly draw in fans of the show who don’t normally play video games but are looking for a way to fill the void until season five comes along. It helps that Game of Thrones is also releasing on iOS. If it works as a “gateway game” that introduces more people to Telltale’s current library of games, then all the better.

Game of Thrones is launching more or less at the same time as Telltale series Tales from the Borderlands, which means that new episodes from each series will likely release alongside one another over the next few months. Bring it on!

Game of Thrones Episode 1: Iron From Ice releases December 2nd for PC, Mac, and PS4; December 3rd for Xbox 360 and Xbox One; and December 4th for iOS.
