Here’s An Hour of Commentary-Free ‘Halo 5′ Multiplayer Gameplay

Halo 5: Guardians is bringing some new mechanics to the Halo multiplayer that fans have become accustomed to over the years, with 343 Industries aiming to move the series forward while still retaining the same, recognizable Halo feel. The multiplayer beta is currently scheduled to kick off later this month, giving players access for a few weeks, but in the meantime, gameplay videos will be the only way most can get a closer look.

It’s not the best way to form an opinion of the game, however the ability to simply focus on what’s happening in front of you, as opposed to worrying about your own movements in the game, is helpful in its own way. So, imagine what could be gained from a full hour of unedited Halo 5 gameplay footage, completely devoid of commentary. Sure, it may subtract from the felling of experiencing the game for oneself, but it allows people to see a large portion of the multiplayer beta, including the maps and game modes, ahead of time.

Ready Up Live has provided that very thing in both commentary-free and with commentary variations, showing off the Empire and Crossfire maps, the game types Slayer and Breakout, and a few of new abilities like the Ground Pound, Clamber, and the Thruster Pack. A commentary-less version was created so that viewers could hear the game in all its glory. Needless to say, it sounds like Halo, and it’s great.

343 expressed last week that the upcoming beta is extremely important to them, as evident by the fact that the beta is coming an entire year ahead of Halo 5 proper. The studio stated that the beta will do more than just test the servers, and will serve to improve the game by using player data and feedback. Hopefully the beta will go over smoother than Halo: The Master Chief Collection’s launch, which suffered from numerous online issues. It would be unfortunate to have two highly desired Halo products underperform on their respective launches back-to-back.

The Halo 5: Guardians beta for Xbox One begins on December 29, 2014 and concludes three weeks later on January 18, 2015. Those that bought The Master Chief Collection gain automatic access, but there’s no word on how non-MCC owners can get in on the fun, if at all.

Halo 5: Guardians will release sometime in 2015.
