Riptor Set to Return This Month in ‘Killer Instinct’

Killer Instinct Riptor

Microsoft’s reborn fighting game franchise, Killer Instinct, has been a hit on the Xbox One. After announcing that the title would be a downloadable launch exclusive for its latest console, fans have watched the game grow from featuring just a handful of fighters to moving on to its second season. The new lineup of combatants and battlegrounds has slowly been releasing through the Season 2 pass.

While new additions to Killer Instinct like Maya have been a pleasant newcomers to the series, there’s still something special about seeing returning veterans from the arcade classic once again suit up for combat. After an ample amount of fan demand, gamers will finally be getting another tried and true brawler that made her debut in previous installments. That’s right, the vicious dino Riptor will once again be entering the fray, but this time she’ll look quite a bit different.

instead of being a human/raptor hybrid, like in the original KI, Riptor is now a cybernetic raptor. Decked out with some high-tech gear and a very curious looking tail, this revamped fighter is ready to make any would-be challengers extinct. Iron Galaxy Studios, the developer currently working on the forthcoming content, has also confirmed that the character’s original move set will remain intact – with the exception of ‘Upperclaw’ which has been replaced with the appropriately named ‘Clever Girl’.

While robotic dinosaurs may not be an appropriate offering during the Yuletide season, three brand new Christmas-themed costumes definitely are. Orchid, Sabrewulf and TJ Combo are all getting alternate costumes to go with the Holidays, but they’ll cost fans some of their hard-earned cash to access. Orchid’s alternate attire will be available to any one that owns the character, Sabrewulf’s reindeer getup is available to anyone that already has the Ultra Edition of Season 1, while TJ Combo’s Santa wardrobe is free to anyone that owns the Ultra Edition of Season 2.

Of course, all of these costumes can be purchased separately for gamers that aren’t willing to fork over the extra cash for all of the trimmings that accompany the aforementioned Ultra Edition Seasons. Riptor will be highlighted in a gameplay video that’s scheduled to be released on Monday, but the dinosaur is also tentatively scheduled to release on December 17, 2014 for Ultra Season Pass owners and December 23, 2014 for everyone else.

It’s great to have Riptor once again clawing her way through the Killer Instinct roster, and it’ll be even more interesting to see how well she can hold her own. There are still a number of additional fighters scheduled to arrive in the near future so stay tuned to Game Rant for more news as it becomes available.
