When designing a kid’s bedroom you want it to reflect exactly that, a kid. This means keeping the décor fun, light, and bright so that kids feel inspired and happy with their space. Kids bedrooms can achieve this look by following a few very simple and easy tips, let’s take a look at them.
Every child seems to have an endless amount of toys so why not use them as part of the room decor. Instead of fighting against all the “clutter” use them as design elements. Quite often toys are bright and colorful and because of their varying sizes it creates visual interest in the space. You can hang toys on the wall, create cubbies to store them, or floating shelves.
Use the window treatments as your pop of color in the space. Look for fun patterns and designs in bright eye-catching colors. A good tip to keep in mind is to hang a shade as well as curtains so that it keeps the space dark for bedtime.
Don’t forget to look up at the ceiling and include that in your design. Kids just love elements of their decor included on their ceiling. Adding things like stars, the solar system, marine life, or whatever your child into is a fun and unexpected part of their room. For added fun look for glow in the dark pieces to use on the ceiling.
When it comes to linen look for patterns and colors that work with the theme of the room. The bedding will then act as a design element in the space. Throw pillows are a great way to add another pop of colour yet are also functional to sit on while playing on the floor.
A very cheap and fun design idea is to use photos on the wall of friends, family, and pets. You can place in them in frames or matte them on brightly colored bristle board that matches the room.
While this tip adds to the design and decor in the space it is also practical. Pick a carpet that will be soft and comfortable on kids’ feet, hands, and knees as kids play on the floor a lot and you want their space to feel comfortable. Carpet/broadloom is usually the best choice but if you have hardwood floors ou can either buy an area rug or even use rubber mats instead.
Lampshades are a feature that often go forgotten in a kids bedroom . Just like adult space this can add a style element to the room that in the case of kids can act as fun and whimsy. You can even purchase a plain lampshade and then decorate it with your child and make it a craft project.
Just because it is a kids bedroom doesn’t mean sacrifices should be made on design and décor. Instead think outside the box or better yet, think like a kid and try to imagine what they’d love to see in their space.
