Upcoming ‘Assassin’s Creed Unity’ Patch Fixes ‘Most’ Remaining Issues

Assassins Creed Unity Update 4

While the launch of Assassin’s Creed Unity has been, to say the least, bumpy, the good news is that developer Ubisoft has been open with gamers about known issues and how they plan to address them. In fact, the studio started a blog whose sole focus was to create a dialogue between developer and player, making sure everyone knew what fixes were on the way and when the patch might arrive.

In the latest blog update, Ubisoft reveals that a fourth Assassin’s Creed Unity update is in the pipeline and should be hitting some time soon. This update is unlikely to be the last but it will, according to Ubisoft, fix most of the remaining frame rate issues with Unity.

Among the fixes in this forthcoming patch is a workaround for reported instances of the game crashing after loading up a save. According to Ubisoft, if a player takes their game offline prior to loading the save they should encounter no problems, but that’s just to get around the issue for the time being. After patch 4, however, Ubisoft reports that the loading error should be mostly fixed.

Outside of those nagging issues, there are apparently additional fixes included with the update, but Ubisoft has yet to detail those. They’re currently testing some of the fixes in the patch and once the studio verifies they work, they will talk about release dates.

From Ubisoft’s post:

  • Game crashes after loading your save: We’re devoting a lot of attention to this one and we have a workaround (try taking your system offline and reload your save, you should be able to play offline). Most instances of this crash will be eliminated in Patch 4, but if you do still encounter this issue after the Patch is applied please file a Customer Support ticket to help us identify what your issue is so we can create a fix for it.

  • Error CE-34878-0: Similar to the crash mentioned above, the game freezes or crashes after loading your save. This particular error message is exclusive to PS4. This issue should be resolved in Patch 4.

  • Initiates legacy recognition issues: Many of these issues have been resolved, but we’ve noted that it could still take several days for all of your progress from past games to be fully updated. If after five days you still don’t see your progress accurately reflected on the site, please file a ticket with Customer Support so we can more closely examine this issue.

  • Companion App issues: We’ve just released a new patch for the Companion App, so be sure to update to release 1.04 if you have not already. This patch addresses the following issues:
    • Restoration of lost Premiums

    • Fixed synchronization issues for first-time users and at login

    • Fixed the “no assassin” issue in the tutorial

    • Fixed missions with 100% odds of success that could fail

    • Fixed an issue with lost progress – simply resync with the HD game and load your save, this will synchronize your online progression data.

The blog post also addresses the free game that Ubisoft has promised to any who purchased the Assassin’s Creed Unity Season Pass, saying that more details are also on the way. Currently, they are looking into a web-based redemption system that will make it easy for players to submit requests and redeem their games. We assumed at the time that this goodwill gesture would be reserved for digital codes for the games (Far Cry 4, The Crew, Watch Dogs, Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, Rayman Legends, and Just Dance 2015) but that may not be the case. Again, Ubisoft will have more to say on redeeming those free games in the future.

The fact that we’re still talking about patches nearly a month after launch speaks volumes about Assassin’s Creed Unity‘s state at release. Granted, there are those who have experienced minimal issues, if any, but plenty continue to struggle just playing the game. This loading error, for example, as made the game unplayable for some, and that should not be happening

We’ll keep you posted when Ubisoft reveals more about this fourth update and the free game redemption.

Are there any issues you’ve encountered that are not on this list? Did you pick up a Season Pass prior to the goodwill gesture?
