Destiny’s Iron Banner 2.0 detailed, voice chat update going live next week

Bungie has announced that Lord Saladin and his revamped Iron Banner event will be returning to Destiny “very soon.” Also, on Monday the developer will be pushing its updated voice chat system live.

According to the developer, this time power will actually matter in the Iron Banner. Only players who are level 20 can lead a fireteam into battle—players who are below 20 can join level 20+ players to enter—and only players within three levels of each other will be competitive. A player’s defense rating will determine damage taken, while attack rating determines damage done—so fully upgrade your weapons.

There are five Iron Banner ranks to obtain, with players able to hang onto their rating from the first time the event was live. Reputation is only awarded to the winning team, but the losers will get an Iron Medallion that can be turned in upon winning for more reputation.

Finally, level 30 gauntlets and boots will be on offer during the event, and players have the option of reforging their weapons to reset their progression and obtain new perks.

Also, on November 17, Bungie will be pushing a new update live that will add a beta voice chat channel for matchmaking. Access navigation mode to enter the matchmaking chat channel, which will work in both strikes and PvP.

“Think of this as a trial step into a more vocal world. We know that matchmade teammates aren’t the only people in Destiny to whom you want to speak,” Bungie added. “Your Mom told you never to talk to strangers. We think she was probably right, but we’re willing to provide you with an option where you need it for tactical gain.”
