Mighty No. 9’s Beck redesigned, box art revealed

In their most recent Mighty No. 9 Kickstarter update, Comcept USA revealed the new Japanese box art that certain levels of backers will receive with the game, as well as a slight redesign of the game’s protagonist, Beck.

The box art will be awarded to backers at the $40 level and higher and shows off all eight of the game’s bosses, with Beck front and center in the middle and the game’s title in the lower right corner.

The box art also revealed a new color scheme for Beck from what we’ve seen in the past. Whereas large parts of his body had a grayish-green hue previously, those parts have been replaced by solid white.

“From the very beginning we designed Beck to have a neutral, grey base, with the idea of wanting to make something completely new and unique,” says Mighty No. 9 director Koji Imaeda.

“But development soldiered on, and as we approached the last leg, we started looking closer at Beck. As a protagonist that could absorb the abilities of his siblings and take on various forms, our image of his appropriate color shifted from ‘neutrality’ to ‘containing all possibilities’… and since white is a combination of all colors of light, we felt that would actually suit his character better! Hence, we went with the coloring change.”

The final aspect of this update also showed off Beck’s sister, Call, and her new crossbow like weapon’s design so she can defend herself if/when you choose to play as her.

Mighty No. 9 was a Kickstarter started by Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune that channels the core of the Blue Bomber. It originally asked for only $900,000, but received more than quadruple that.

Mighty No. 9 is targeting an April 2015 release and will be available on Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360, PS3, 3DS, Wii U, PC, Mac, and Linux.
