Far Cry 4 creative director given the go-ahead to develop his own project à la Child of Light

Ubisoft has given Far Cry 4 creative director Alex Hutchinson the greenlight to develop a new, personal project, the man himself informed CVG.

“I’ve got clearance along with a bunch of people from AC3 and AC4 to go off and do something new after [Far Cry 4],” Hutchinson told CVG. “The challenge then is to keep costs down and make something that competes at a high level, without saying ‘we need a thousand people for a new IP!’”

Far Cry 3 creative director Patrick Plourde was similarly rewarded after completing Far Cry 3. Granted his own indie-scale team to work with, Plourde spearheaded the JRPG-inspired digital release Child of Light, which launched across PC and consoles earlier this year.

“There’s different pressures on these sorts of projects, but at least at the moment we’ve got the OK from the studio to try something new,” Hutchinson added. “Hopefully you’re back in a year and I can show you. It won’t be finished in a year, but the aim is [to show it].”

Far Cry 4 launched on Windows PC, PS4, Xbox One, PS3, and Xbox 360 earlier this week. For more on Ubisoft’s open-world shooter, check out Josh’s review.
